James Kyprios is a former domestic and international banker now serving as a consultant to companies and banks regarding financing and related matters. He also provides smaller private companies and banks with strategic and management advice. In addition, he is involved in expert witness work in his areas of expertise (including corporate finance and banking).
Mr. Kyprios has over 40 years experience in corporate finance and banking. He was credit trained at Prudential Insurance Company where he was active in providing private placement bond financing to small and medium-sized companies. He has spent most of his career in domestic and international banking with a specialty in domestic and international extensions of credit including (1) direct loans; (2) syndicated credits; and (3) various types of extensions of credit to commercial banks. He is considered an expert in leveraged loans and junk bond financing and has had experience in work outs and bankruptcy financing. He has a wide range of credit and lending experience in terms of industry, company size and location. Mr. Kyprios has structured and negotiated extensions of credit to corporations and financial institutions in the US and overseas (including Europe, Latin America, Israel and Ivory Coast).
As a senior bank executive at US and foreign banks, he helped in opening new banks as well as organizing new lending and credit departments. He has been a member of Management Committees, Credit Committees and Asset-Liability Committees. He was the head of M&T Bank’s International Banking Department and also a branch manager. He organized and led Union Bank of Finland’s New York Corporate Banking Department. He has organized and led Credit Departments. Mr. Kyprios has authored strategic plans as well as lending and credit policies and procedures. During his banking career, he had a reputation as a careful and conservative lender and credit analyst. He has recently been involved in an intensive risk analysis of a US bank as part of his expert witness work.
Mr. Kyprios has a wealth of contacts in the US and overseas. In 1998, he was designated as an Expert in China where he lectured college students in US Corporate Lending and also the basic elements of Trade Finance. He is conversant in modern Greek, French and some Spanish. In 1977, he was in charge of closing down M&T Bank’s Paris Branch as well as working out problem loans at the Branch in cooperation with a major law firm in Paris.
